Adhesions (or scarring) are a leading cause of female infertility and the primary cause of blocked fallopian tubes. They form as a natural part of healing as the body responds to tissue damage/ insult. Adhesions can form anywhere in the body. When they form within the delicate structures of the female reproductive tract, they tend to glue down structures that are designed to move freely, in order to function correctly. These bonds may be shaped like curtain, ropes, woven patterns, or a combination of these. Adhesion or scarring anywhere in the pelvis can cause pain and infertility. Taking a much deeper look at the etiology and biomechanics of adhesion formation, it was found that the chemical bonds that attached each of the tiny collagen fibers to its neighbor, appeared to dissipate or dissolve when placed under sustained pressure over time. This method has been shown to reduced adhesions, decrease pain, and improve soft tissue mobility, without the risk of surgery or drugs.
Causes of Adhesion Related Infertility
There are four main causes of the adhesions that cause infertility:

Acupuncture is widely known for its ability to induce relaxation, and infertility can be extremely grueling. Infertility often leads to stress and other intense emotions. This can be a vicious cycle for some women, because stress can inhibit pregnancy; when the body is relaxed, it functions better. The feeling of well-being provided by acupuncture serve to relax the muscles of the uterus. If the uterus is in a relaxed state at the time of the IVF embryo transfer, it is less likely to produce contractions that could push the transferred embryo away from fertilization. Acupuncture also improves blood circulation to the ovaries, which will boost the health of the eggs, as well as the uterus, which will increase the lining and make it strong enough to carry eggs to full term. By providing better circulation and blood flow to the womb, acupuncture will give the eggs a better chance to be nourished and supported throughout the pregnancy.
In vitro fertilization drugs and the in vitro process itself are thought to be more effective if acupuncture is done once a week in the two months prior to the beginning of IVF treatment, as well as continued regularly at least once a week during IVF treatment. The best results can be achieved from acupuncture when it is practiced regularly. Rather than a quick fix, it should be viewed as a lifestyle change, similar to eating healthily, or regular exercise.
